Born Pink is the second full-length album by BLACKPINK. It was released on September 16, 2022 with "Shut Down" serving as the album's title track.
"Pink Venom" was pre-released on August 19, 2022.
The physical album comes in nine versions: Pink, Black, Gray, KiT, Vinyl, and four member-specific Digipacks.
Background[]
On August 1, 2022, a 'Born Pink' announcement trailer was posted on the group's social media accounts announcing that the group will be releasing a pre-release single in August, an album in September, and starting a world tour in October.[1] On August 10, a teaser poster announced that the name of the album is Born Pink and will released on September 16, 2022.[2] Pre-orders for the album started on August 11, 2022.[3] On August 24, YG Entertainment revealed that BLACKPINK are filming the music video for the title track for Born Pink at Gyeonggi province. They also added that the title track will shock the fans and that the music video will raise the status of Kpop quality to something that hasn't been seen before.[4]

BLACKPINK performed "Shut Down" for the first time on September 20 at Jimmy Kimmel Live!.[6]
Commercial performance[]
On August 25, it was reported that Born Pink has reached 2 million pre-orders.[7] As of September 17, YG reported that Born Pink 52 #1's on the iTunes Top Albums Chart and 60 #1's on the Apple Music Top Albums chart. "Shut Down" also got 43 #1's on the iTunes Top Songs chart and reached #1 on China's QQ Music realtime chart.[8]
Born Pink sold 1,011,266 copies in its first day of release on Hanteo[9] and 1,542,950 copies in its first week.[10] It's the first album by a female artist to sell over 1 million on the first day on Hanteo.[9] It's also the first album by a female artist to sell over 1.5 million copies.[10]
"Shut Down" charted at #1 on the Spotify Global Top Songs chart. The song also got 6.6 million streams in its first day.[11]
Circle chart reported that Born Pink sold 2,141,281 copies during the week of September 11 - September 17. The album sold over 2 million copies in the first two days of release.[12] In total for the month of September, the album sold 2,517,206 copies.[13] On On November 10, Born Pink received a 2x million certification for selling over 2 million copies on Circle Chart.[14]
Born Pink debuted at #1 on the United Kingdom Official Albums chart. It's the first album by a Kpop girl group to chart at #1.[15]
Born Pink debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. It's the first album by a Kpop female artist to chart at #1. During the first week, the album reached 102,000 equivalent album units (75,500 traditional album sales, 25,000 streaming equivalent album units, and 1,500 track equivalent album units).[16] It has spent two weeks in the top four making it the first album by a Kpop female artist to do so.[17] Overall, it spent nine consecutive weeks on the chart making it the longest charting album by a Kpop female artist of 2022.[18] The album also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales, Billboard Top Current Album Sales, and Billboard Tastemaker chart.[19]
"Shut Down" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S chart.[20] The song also debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart and #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[19]
On February 24, 2023, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry reported that Born Pink charted at #8 on their Global Albums Chart for 2022.[21]
On February 9, 2024, the British Phonographic Industry awared Born Pink a silver BRIT certification.[22]
