BoA (Korean: 보아; Chinese: 宝儿; Japanese: ボア; backronym for "Beat of Angel") is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actress. She is a member of the female unit GOT the beat.
She made her Korean debut on August 25, 2000, with her first album ID; Peace B and her Japanese debut on May 30, 2001, with the single "ID; Peace B".
She is often referred to as the "Queen of K-pop".
Career[]
2000: Initial debut[]
At age 13, BoA made her official debut on August 25, 2000 with the album ID; Peace B.
2001: Japanese debut[]

2008–2009: American debut[]
On September 8, 2008, it was announced that BoA was preparing to make her American debut under the subsidiary label SM Entertainment USA.[1] Her English debut digital single, "Eat You Up", was released on October 21. Her self-titled English studio album was released on March 17, 2009.
2025: Crazier, departure from SM Entertainment[]
On May 7, SM Entertainment shared plans for BoA's 11th full-length album and first Japanese mini album, coming out in the third quarter of 2025.[2] On July 17, it was revealed that she would be releasing Crazier on August 4, 2025.[3]
BoA's exclusive contract with SM Entertainment ended on December 31 according to the singer. SM did not make a statement regarding her possible departure from the agency or contract renewal[4], until January 12, 2026, when SM Entertainment announced BoA's departure from the agency after deciding not to renew her contract.[5]

Passing of brother[]
On September 5, 2021, it was announced that BoA's older brother, director Kwon Soon Wook, had passed away of cancer after battling with it starting the year before.[6]
Health[]
On July 15, 2025, it was announced that BoA was diagnosed with acute osteonecrosis after visiting a hospital for worsening knee pain, and requires surgical treatment. As a result, BoA's fifth solo concert, originally scheduled for August 30 and 31, was canceled.[7]
