BoA (Korean: 보아, Chinese: 宝儿, Japanese: ボア; backronym for "Beat of Angel") is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actress under SM Entertainment. She is a member of the female unit GOT the beat.

She made her Korean debut on August 25, 2000, with her first album ID; Peace B and her Japanese debut on May 30, 2001, with the single "ID; Peace B".

She is often referred to as the "Queen of K-pop".

2000: Initial debut[]

At age 13, BoA made her official debut on August 25, 2000 with the album ID; Peace B.

2001: Japanese debut[]

BoA made her Japanese debut on May 30, 2001 with the single "ID; Peace B".

2008–2009: American debut[]

On September 8, 2008, it was announced that BoA was preparing to make her American debut under the subsidiary label SM Entertainment USA.[1] Her English debut digital single, "Eat You Up", was released on October 21. Her self-titled English studio album was released on March 17, 2009.

Passing of brother[]

On September 5, 2021, it was announced that BoA's older brother, director Kwon Soon Wook, had passed away of cancer after battling with it starting the year before.[2]
