Background[]

On July 12, 2025, JYP Entertainment confirmed reports that NMIXX was preparing to make a comeback sometime in October.[1] On September 15, NMIXX released a motion teaser for their first full-length album Blue Valentine set for release on October 13.[2]

Composition[]

The title track, "Blue Valentine," is a pop song that stands out with its dynamic BPM changes and addictive melody in the chorus over a blue mood.[3] Melancholic synth sounds and guitar riffs drive the track, while the slow and then accelerated boom bap rhythm intersects to add depth. It contains the hope of lighting a fire in a cold heart at the point where each other's emotions collide.

"Spinnin' On It" is an alternative pop song with a catchy bass riff, rough and powerful drums, and R&B-style vocal phrasing. This song, which contains both energy and delicacy, stands out with its call and response structure where the melody of the chorus is sung along and NMIXX's signature sing-along style. The lyrics depict a relationship that cannot let go of each other and stays together even in the midst of repeated fights and confusion.[3]

"Phoenix" is a pop song based on the São Paulo style, and you can feel various charms such as the bleak intro, the solemn chorus, and the addictive post-chorus. It contains the will to overcome all trials and tribulations that come, like a phoenix that is reborn from a pile of ashes.[3]

"Reality Hurts" is a futuristic modern pop track influenced by EDM and jersey clubs. Its bold beats intersect with unconventional vocals and rap, leaving a strong impression. The lyrics express an attitude of constantly overcoming and rising up even in the face of harsh realities. This is NMIXX's first attempt at an English-language song, and member Lily's participation in writing the lyrics adds even more meaning.[3]

"Rico" is a mix of Latin pop and hip-hop, boasting a diverse and unpredictable composition. Beginning with a minimal beat led by the bass, the track offers a catchy chorus rap, splendid chorus harmony, a second verse with Latin piano technique, and an outro that utilizes EDM elements, offering a variety of fun elements. The lyrics, written in English, Korean, and Spanish, express the message of gathering together and enjoying the present moment.[3]

"Game Face" is a pop track that combines NMIXX's bright and energetic vocals with a groovy hip-hop rhythm. The contrasting sections, such as bright and bouncy, suddenly change to moody and dark, and then return to a pleasant chant, effectively unfold. The lyrics express the attitude of focusing on one's inner self and moving forward even in a world overflowing with countless obstacles.[3]

"Podium" is an energetic pop song based on an addictive reggaeton rhythm. You can feel NMIXX's strong will in the rough sound and lyrics. The lyrics, such as "My sky is ground" and "The stars a little closer," contain the goal of climbing up to the Podium, and member Haewon participated in writing the lyrics, making the song shine.[3]

"Crush On You" is a jazzy pop song with groovy drums and rhythmic and emotional guitar. The addictive and refreshing chorus melody is attractive, and you can hear honest confessions within the cool vibe. The lyrics were co-written by rapper Shins and member Haewon.[3]

"Adore U" is a pop/rock track that blends a band sound with hip-hop and hyper-pop styles. It's about a heart that can't let go, relying on familiarity to hurt each other. The closer we get, the more awkwardly we hurt each other, but the lyrics are memorable, confessing how much we love each other.[3]

"Shape of Love" is a pop track that impresses with its blend of electronic sounds and organic instruments, hard drum sounds, and delicate, emotional vocals. The diverse sounds blend together as if to convey the meaning of the lyrics. The whispering rap chorus over the weighty synths and energetic beats is impressive. NMIXX's mature approach portrays the process of realizing that love isn't a simple, clear emotion, but a complex one with various forms.[3]

One of the original tracks included in NMIXX's debut track "O.O," "O.O Part 1 (Baila)" stands out with its danceable rhythm based on the Baile Funk genre. The chorus' continuous lyrics, 'Baila', are Spanish for "to dance". The lyrics convey a sense of confidence in breaking through the barriers of the real world, one by one.[3]

"O.O Part 2 (Superhero)" one of the original tracks MIXXed for NMIXX's debut song 'O.O', is a teenage pop rock genre song that contains the meaning of marching through this world with a lively and confident attitude as if you were a "superhero" and flying to the world beyond.[3]
