"Better" (对峙 [duì zhì], lit. Confrontation) is the first Chinese digital single by BoA. It was released on July 18, 2022 and features Chinese singer-songwriter Xin.
Background and release[]
The single was originally planned to be released in summer 2021, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, both BoA and Xin filmed the music video separately. Motion Control Camera (MMC) was used to shoot separately, and the two versions were merged during editing.
The music video concept is a cycle interlocking. It displays the confrontation of two powerful women: XIN, who can create things, and BoA, who has the ability to make things disappear.
On July 16, 2022 SM Entertainment announced the collaboration. They stated: "BoA and Chinese singer-songwriter Xin Liu announce collaboration! The Chinese version of ‘Better’, planned and produced by executive producer Lee Soo Man, will be released on July 18!"[1]
The single was released digitally on July 18 at 12PM KST, and the music video was released later at 6PM KST.
