Background[]

On October 23, 2025, local news source Herald POP reported that NCT DREAM is preparing for their November comeback. The report was later confirmed by SM Entertainment.[1] Later, on October 26, changes made to the icon and header photos on the group's official social medias announced their sixth mini album Beat It Up would be released on November 17.[2]

Composition[]

"Beat It Up" is a hip-hop track that stands out for its bold kicks and heavy bass. Signature vocal sounds and witty section transitions repeated over energetic beats create an addictive rhythm, while the whispered intro and tight rapping maximize tension and speed.[3]

"Rush" is a pop track that combines energetic drums, chorus, and arpeggio synths to create a tense atmosphere along with impressive and explosive chanting of the hook part. As the title suggests, R&B elements are added to the dynamic development that seems to be running fast to complete the sophisticated sensibility.[4]

"Butterflies" is an acoustic pop ballad song that combines lyrical guitar sounds with simple and emotional vocals. The lyrics read, "Do I still give you butterflies?", conveying a pure confession that I want to share the dazzling excitement as the moment we first met, even if time passes.[5]

"Tempo" is a hip-hop track inspired by the boom and battle rap of the 90s, expressing explosive energy and an unstoppable sense of speed. Just like the lyrics "No reds, all green", they confidently unfold the tempo of NCT DREAM, which moves unstoppably at a different speed than others.[5]

"Cold Coffee" is a lyrical R&B pop ballad. It talks about how the heart felt for a special someone who always opens a new day like the dawn, and depicts a love that endures through time like the lingering fragrance of cold coffee. The gradually escalating drum rhythm and refreshing melody express the desperate desire to run to a loved one.[6]

"Tricky" is a hip-hop track with a heavy bass sound driving the entire track, creating an unpredictable tension, added to a melody freely moving across the vocal range and the powerful rap showcasing a mature expressiveness and intense energy. The lyrics describe the dangerous and confusing feelings of wanting to escape from a person while still being addicted.[6]
