An Yujin (안유진; or simply Yujin) is a South Korean singer, lyricist, model and MC under Starship Entertainment. She is the leader of the girl group IVE and a former member of the project girl group IZ*ONE.
Career[]
2018-2021: Produce 48, IZ*ONE[]
On May 11, 2018, she was revealed to be a contestant on Produce 48 as a trainee representing Starship Entertainment. On August 30, she finished the competition in 5th place, thus becoming a member of IZ*ONE.[2] The group officially debuted on October 29 with the mini album Color*IZ.
On April 29, 2021, IZ*ONE disbanded after their special contract was concluded. Then, Yujin returned to Starship as a trainee.
2021: Inkigayo, debut with IVE[]
On February 18, 2021, it was announced that Yujin would become the new MC for Inkigayo, replacing Naeun of APRIL.[3] She made her first appearance as an MC, alongside TREASURE's Jihoon and NCT's Sungchan, on March 7.
Due to her recent contraction of COVID-19, she was absent as an MC during the September 5th broadcast of Inkigayo. After fully recovering and taking time to rest, she made her return to the show more than a month later on October 24.
On August 22, Star News reported that Yujin and fellow IZ*ONE member Jang Wonyoung would be members in Starship's upcoming girl group, set to debut in the second half of the year. Starship confirmed the plans, but did not share if the two would be part of the group.[4]
On November 2, following the official reveal of the girl group, an article was published on Naver confirming that Yujin will be making her re-debut in IVE.[5] The group debuted on December 1, 2021 with the single album "Eleven".
2022: Departure from Inkigayo, "Move Like This"[]
On March 15, 2022, it was announced that Yujin, along with NCT's Sungchan and TREASURE's Jihoon, would be stepping down from her role as MC on the music show Inkigayo after over a year.[6] Her last broadcast as an MC took place on March 27.
On May 23, it was announced that Yujin would be releasing a collaboration single with Olympic figure skater Yuna Kim as part of the 2022 Gatorade x Starship Campaign.[7] Two days later, on May 25, it was revealed that Kang Daniel would also take part in the song.[8] The collaborative single, titled "Move Like This", was released on June 6.
2022: Earth Arcade S1; S2[]
On June 2022, it was announced that An Yujin will be joining the cast of TvN Earth Arcade, a new travel variety show produced by Na Young-seok and Park Hyun-yong.[9] On January 2023, the show was confirmed to return for season 2.[10]
2023: Crime Scene Returns, "This Wish"[]
On July 18, it was announced that An Yujin will be joining the cast for TVING's variety show, Crime Scene Returns. It is set to be released in the first half of 2024.[11]
An Yujin was selected to sing the Korean version of the main soundtrack for the Disney movie The Wish.[12] "This Wish" was released on December 22.
Personal life[]
Education[]
Yujin attended the Seoul Performing Arts School, but in 2019 Off The Record Entertainment announced that she would be dropping out of school to focus on her idol life and IZ*ONE activities and that she would be homeschooled.[13] In 2020 she announced that she had passed the GED exam.[14]
Health[]
On August 29, 2021, Starship Entertainment shared that Yujin and labelmate Wonyoung had been in contact with a staff member who had tested positive for COVID-19 and had received tests immediately. Yujin's test at the time had come back negative, however as a preemptive measure all her scheduled activities were halted and she went into self-quarantine.[15]
On September 4, 2021, while voluntarily using self-testing to test herself in self-quarantine, she began to show symptoms of a sore throat and fever. After receiving tests from health authorities, it was revealed that she had sadly contracted COVID-19. On September 16, Starship once again revealed that Yujin was deemed fully recovered and left isolation; hoping to rest for a short period of time after her recovery.[16]
