(여보세요! 우리는: We are the one! Double A!)

—AA

AA (더블에이; also as Double A) was a boy group under Blue Star Entertainment. They debuted on November 4, 2011 with their debut stage on Music Bank.[n 1]

The group presumably disbanded in May 2016.

History[]

Pre-debut[]

On October 18, 2011, Wellmade StarM announced that AA would officially debut later that month, unveiling Aoora as the group's first member.[2] This was followed by the reveal of Woosang on the 20, Kimchi on the 21 and finally Juwon and Hoik on the 24.[3][4][5]

On October 28, the group made their first public appearance at 2011 K-POP Super Concert and performed their debut song "So Crazy" with their labelmate, actress Ha Ji-won.[6]

2011-2012: Debut with "So Crazy", hiatus, comeback reveals[]

On November 3, 2011, AA released their first digital single "So Crazy". The following day, the group made their official debut on Music Bank.[7]

After wrapping up the promotions for their debut, the group revealed plans for a comeback in February 2012 with a mini album.[8] However, plans presumably fell through and they went on a hiatus.

On July 2, 2012, the group teased a comeback by updating their Facebook page's cover photo with an image stating "Coming Soon".[9] In addition, the members began posting covers on their YouTube channel to hype up the comeback.[10]

On September 28, the group began teasing a comeback again by counting down to the release of "Ageha Dance".[11] This was followed by the release of the members' self-filmed music video for the song on October 2.

On October 1, Wellmade StarM announced that they would begin releasing 20 teaser videos for their comeback with a 12-track album, starting from October 8, and the comeback date would be revealed in a random teaser.[12] However, they later released another announcement on October 7, stating that the teasers' release date had been postponed and only 15 teasers would be posted. In addition, they would be holding a contest where fans can guess which teaser contained the title track and win various prizes.[13]

On December 12, the title track guessing contest ended. With this, it was announced that the correct answer wouldn't be revealed as there was no AA comeback planned for that year. However, they had been filming three music videos for the comeback, which would be released soon.[14]

2013: "Rollin' Rollin'", Come Back, Juwon's departure, addition of Jinhong, "Midnight Taxi", "Ok About It"[]

On February 25, 2013, they announced the release of their second digital single, "Rollin' Rollin'", as a pre-release for their upcoming mini album.[15] On March 7, "Rollin' Rollin'" was released alongside its music video. While the song and its music video was deemed unsuitable for broadcast by KBS and SBS, they continued the roll out for their mini album as scheduled.[16]

On March 27, the group returned with their first mini album Come Back, with a track of the same name serving as the title track.

On June 17, it was announced that Juwon would be leaving the group to pursue his career as an actor and the agency planned to recruit two new members. The following day, a special music video for "2nite 3x", the b-side of their upcoming album, was released as a tribute to Juwon.[17]

On July 25, the group released their third digital single, "Midnight Taxi" as a pre-release for their album in mid-August.

On August 4, the first teaser of their new member was released, revealing 16 as his age.[18] Two days later, Jinhong was revealed as their new member.[19] With this, the group returned with their first single album "Ok About It" on the 19.

2014-2015: Hiatus, Aoora's solo debut, Woosang's enlistment, transfer to Blue Star Entertainment, Jinhong and Kimchi's departure, Aoora & Hoik[]

Since 2014, the group halted all promotions due to unknown reasons. During this period, Aoora made his solo re-debut with the digital single "Body Party" on March 28, Hoik temporarily returned to his daily life and focused on his studies and music work, Kimchi worked at a phone store and Woosang enlisted in the military for his mandatory enlistment in December.[20][21]

In May 2015, AA was transferred to Wellmade StarM's new subsidiary company Blue Star Entertainment without Kimchi and Jinhong.[22] On the 31st of the same month, Jinhong was officially revealed as a new member of 24K, subsequently confirming his departure from AA.[23]

On October 1, their first sub-unit Aoora & Hoik debuted with the digital single "Morning Noon Evening", featuring She'z member Taeyeon.

2016: Aoora & Hoik's departure, disbandment[]

On May 24, 2016, Aoora confirmed on Instagram that he had departed from Blue Star Entertainment, and subsequently AA, following the expiration of his contract with the agency in March.[24] Around the same time, Hoik also left the agency.[25]

Following Aoora & Hoik's departure from Blue Star Entertainment, AA was removed from the agency's website, with only Woosang remaining under the agency as a choreographer.[26] As a result, it was presumed that the group had disbanded.
