84LY (에잇폴리) was a six-member girl group under Universal Music Korea and Show M Entertainment. They debuted on September 29, 2012, with their first and only mini album Girls Secret Party.

They disbanded in the start of 2014 due to inactivity caused by internal conflicts with their management label, Show M Entertainment.

History[]

2012: Debut with Girls Secret Party[]

On September 29, 2012 84LY made their surprise debut with the first mini album Girls Secret Party. Their lineup consisted of Vosun, Daya, Solip, Liha, Minyoung and Suha.[n 1]

2013-2014: Management Issues, temporary disbandment, and official disbandment[]

By 2013, after all domestic promotions had concluded, the company created an official YouTube channel for the group and released the music video on March 8, 2013, five months after their official debut.[1]

Following the delayed release of the music video, member Suha was selected to appear as a guest on the variety show 루비 슬리퍼 on April 4.[2] Shortly after her appearance, the group was no longer seen in public or involved in official activities. Later, producer Lee Kang-hoo posted a message on Twitter stating that the group was “temporarily disbanded, but not disbanded".[citation needed]

It is believed that the group unofficially disbanded in early 2014, following the deletion of their official Twitter page and prolonged inactivity, due to internal conflicts with their management company, Show M Entertainment.

Trivia[]

  • Their group name meant: "8", which on its side is the symbol for infinity (∞), "4" meaning the four directions (north, east, south and west), and "LY" taken from the word 'only'. The intended message was: "The only team with infinite possibilities in the world".[4]
  • Prior to debut, members Daya and Solip had both previously worked as actresses in the entertainment industry.
    • Daya made her acting debut in the drama 쩐의전쟁 in 2007.
    • Solip, who majored in broadcasting and entertainment before professionally starting her career in the field, debuted in the musical Hamlet in 2011.

Notes[]

  1. Their management company, Show M Entertainment, released the mini album without proper promotions or teasers. The music video was exclusively broadcasted on MTV, with only domestic promotions scheduled. Additionally, the group's only official social media accounts, a Twitter page and a Naver Café, were both abandoned shortly after the initial promotional period.
