20star (20스타) was a pre-debut boy group under TGN Entertainment. Their debut was initially scheduled for August 2010 but was ultimately cancelled following their presumed silent disbandment in early 2011.[1]
History[]
2010: Pre-debut and lineup changes[]
In early July 2010, TGN Entertainment launched an official Daum Café and began teasing the debut of a new 20-member boy group, 20star. The initial lineup introduced at the time included A-Run, Daeyoung, Dongkyu, Dowon, Hongmin, Hwan, Jaeyoon, Jinhan, Ricky, Ryan, Rui, Sangmin, Seungtae, Sihoo, Shinsung, Typhoon and Xeno.
On July 27, 2010, the group was officially announced through TGN Entertainment's website. The statement confirmed a 16-member lineup, hinted at a planned debut in August, and formally launched their Daum Café.[1] It was also noted that Typhoon had withdrawn prior to the official reveal. In the final days of July, a new member, Yonghwan, was added.
In August, Seungpyo and Taebin were introduced, briefly increasing the group to 19 members. Seungpyo, however, departed shortly after, returning the group to 18.
In September, two additional members, Jasung and Jihyeok , were added, completing the group's intended 20-member lineup. Around the same time, it was announced that Taebin had changed his stage name to Aiden.
In October, it was announced that eleven members had departed the group: A-Run, Daeyoung, Dowon, Hwan, Jaeyoon, Ryan, Rui, Sangmin, Seungtae, Shinsung, and Yonghwan. According to the company, some members left due to personal decisions, while others were removed for reportedly not being “good enough.”[2]
By late 2010, a new member, Hyunjong, joined the group.
2011: Disbandment[]
Following Hyunjong's addition, activity on the group’s only official platform, Daum Café, began to decline. The group is presumed to have silently disbanded by the start of 2011, as remaining members began updating their personal Cyworld accounts with no mention of the group. The Daum Café page was eventually deleted around the same time.
Aftermath:[]
Following the disbandment of 20star, all the members went their separate ways.
- Typhoon resumed his solo career on February 3, 2012, with the release of his 1.5th digital single, "Farewell". However, following the release, he is presumed to have quietly left the entertainment industry.
- A-Run (now known as Siwan), Hwan (now known as Siwoo), Jaeyoon, Sangmin and Ryan (now known as Zeno) went on to become members of Twilight
- Jaeyoon subsequently debuted as a soloist under the name Lois on April 20, 2016, with the digital single "Tough Lady".
- Sihoo joined the pre-debut group Joker in 2015; however, their debut was ultimately cancelled.
The circumstances of the other members are still currently unknown.
