2022 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU Palace is the ninth winter album by SMTOWN. It was released on December 26, 2022 as part of SM's SMTOWN : SMCU Palace project with "Beautiful Christmas" and "The Cure" serving as the album's double title tracks.

The album features Kangta, BoA, TVXQ!, SUPER JUNIOR, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon and Hyoyeon, SHINee's Onew, Key and Minho, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT's Sungchan and Shotaro, NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, aespa and ScreaM Records's DJs Ginjo, IMLAY, Raiden and Mar Vista.

Background[]

On November 25, SM Entertainment revealed the teaser for the 2022 Winter SMTOWN project, 2022 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU Palace.^[1]

Composition[]

"The Cure" is described as a pop genre song that features an exciting African rhythm. The lyrics talk about the struggles modern society faces and a message about sustainable solidarity in order to help heal and confront the wounds that were left. It also mentions the start of the SM global movement to combat climate change.^[2]

"Hot & Cold" is described as a pop dance genre song. The song is refreshing and features a sophisticated sound of synthesizers. The lyrics talk about comparing the conflicting love between a women and a man who are in love. The vocals on the track add a cool charm.^[3] "Jet" is described as a hip-hop dance genre song that has drums that go at a thrilling sense of speed and a gliding base. The lyrics talk about having the desire to fly anywhere with their fans by their side.^[3] "Good To Be Alive" is described as an EDM house genre song that features a cheerful piano sound and rhythmical strings. The lyrics talk about how everyone shines more beautifully when they are all together.^[3]

"Time After Time" is described as a medium tempo R&B genre song. The vocal technique used in the song expresses the sadness of love as if shouting. The vocals are mature and impressive which helps give the song a deeper meaning. The lyrics talk about giving comfort and embracing people who have had a bad year that was filled with anxiety and fears.^[5] "Where You Are" is described as a ballad genre song. It has delicate vocals and a piano that creates a sad atmosphere. The lyrics talk about walking on the snowy streets alone and reminiscing a past lover.^[5]

Commercial performance[]

On February 9, 2023, Circle Chart announced that 2022 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU Palace received a platinum certification.^[6]
