"1/4" is the debut digital single album by ONEWE. It was released on May 13, 2019 with "Reminisce about All" serving as the single's title track.
Composition[]
"1/4" contains three songs, mainly written and composed by members Yong Hoon, CyA and Kang Hyun, composed and arranged in collaboration with Jeon Dawoon. The single album introduces the various genres of ONEWE and their three main songwriters.
"Ring on My Ears"[]
The album begins with "Ring on My Ears" by CyA, a rock track with influences of both modern rock in the verses and heavier pop-punk in the chorus. Included along with it is the synth-based "Ring on My Ears (Remix)", more accurately known to be the song's demo guide, as the final track.[1] "Ring on My Ears" is a song with intricate use of Korean wordplay/idioms throughout, expressing the thrill and determination to perform which is represented in the title "귀걸이가 나를 때리게" as their earrings hitting their cheeks as they perform on stage.
"Reminisce About All"[]
As the title track, the album shifts to a vocal-centric ballad "Reminisce About All" by Yong Hoon. "Reminisce About All" was originally composed on acoustic guitar by Yong Hoon with a calm, mid-tempo, hip-hop vibe; it was the first song he composed on guitar, years prior to the band signing with their agency RBW.[2] As he developed the song further, it naturally changed to become a piano-driven ballad, gradually building toward a vocal crescendo with the staggered introduction of the band's other instruments, as well as the incorporation of strings in the background track recorded by RB-inj. The song tells a personal story reminiscing on hard times with the message in the lyrics that "life will eventually become a memory, even the painful moments are memories".
"0&4"[]
Shifting genres once again, the third song on the album is the playful modern pop-funk "0&4" by Kang Hyun, a song with an unconventional structure, jazz section and switch-up with a hip-hop section by CyA. Titled using the Korean wordplay "공과 사", meaning both "0&4" and "public and private", it is a song which explores a need to separate public from private matters.
